Ownership and history
The New Zealand Quality College is part of the Testing Laboratory
Registration Council, a Crown entity established by an Act
of Parliament in 1972. Initially, the Council, trading as
Telarc New Zealand, accredited testing and calibration laboratories.
With the advent of ISO 9000 series of standards in 1984, Telarc
New Zealand also promoted and certified to this standard.
Training courses were a key part of promoting both laboratory
accreditation and management systems certification. Included
was training in audit skills. All courses were run by Telarc
New Zealand staff and independent consultants. The demand
for training courses increased substantially during the late
1980’s and early 1990’s, to the extent that it
became a separate operating unit of Telarc New Zealand in
1992. A manager was appointed and the name New Zealand Quality
College established.
When the Council separated its accreditation and certification
functions in 1997, the New Zealand Quality College became
an operating unit of International Accreditation New Zealand.
Its training courses have continued to cover the standards
and requirements for IANZ accreditation and for management
systems certification provided by Telarc SAI Limited. Complementary
training courses have been added to include other essential
management systems, such as health and safety, and food safety.
